We love a great vibe but we love our planet a little more. In conjunction with No Danger Diaries, our main motto is “have fun. Make a difference”. Which is why we’ve come up with some super important festival green tips.
What is a Conscious/Green Festival?
Conscious festivals are becoming a new trend, as they should.
Conscious festivals are also known as sustainability festivals. Sustainability is all about avoiding the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance. Simply put – sustainability is ensuring we do not deplete our natural resources in order for all living beings to live in harmony.
We try to raise awareness on the importance of sustainability so more and more individuals around the world will find a way to live a consistent eco-friendly life that will benefit all living organisms.
Conscious festivals, also known as transformational festivals are sweeping the world by storm. These festivals have a ‘Leave No Trace’ policy, which means they will not cause any destruction to the natural environment. Not only do these festivals make a difference but they’re also ridiculously fun. You will be carefree for an entire weekend where you can dance the nights away and fill your days with exciting activities.
Our festival is a weekend of self-exploration, growing as a community, falling in love with the environment while having an unbelievable time. Our festival goers take sustainability seriously, love their community and are open to learning more about various cultures, vegetation and the world around us.
We have a few tips for our festival goers to ensure they have the best weekend while living consciously.
Festival green tips
1. Keep it clean
Absolutely NO littering will be tolerated. Yes, we are at the festival to have a good time but we will leave no trace behind.
2. Respect the flowers… and surrounds
Please don’t destroy or deface any plant or animal life. They have more of a right to be there than we do. Don’t pollute the river or water systems. These are fresh and clean water supplies – let’s leave it that way.
3. Recycling is the bomb.com
Bring your own recycling and landfill bags and make sure to separate your rubbish into the various recycling components;
- Plastic
- Tins
- Paper/cardboard
4. Never refuse to reuse
Bring and use your own cups, plates and cutlery. It will reduce the use of plastic and polystyrene tremendously. And those who bring their own reusable items will get price breaks at the bar and from food vendors (even more worth it now).
5. Bottles on bottles
Make a reusable water bottle or cup your most fashionable accessory yet. Don’t waste your money buying bottled water – save some dough, help the environment, and look rad doing so.
6. You’re Only Cool if you Carpool
We all know how hectic festival parking can be, long lines, and the risk of getting lost. Reduce the chaos for yourself and for others by carpooling with a friend or two. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the festival while knowing you just did the planet some good!
7. We say no to butts
Cigarette butts are a big no-no at the festival. Please dispose of your cigarette butts properly (in a bag, keep them all somewhere to throw away after the festival etc.) and DO NOT throw the butts on the ground.
8. Don’t suck… (plastic straws)
Do you really need a plastic straw, are you sure? Our vote is no. Please don’t bring any plastic straws to the festival. But definitely bring your glass or metal straws along – this we’re fully onboard with.
These are just a few tips on how you can become a green festival goer. After attending the Namaqualand Flower Festival, be sure to contact us if you have any suggestions.
